What to Expect at St. Matthias
We know that visiting a new church for the first time can feel a little uncertain. Whether you have never set foot in a church, or you grew up attending one, walking through unfamiliar doors takes courage. We want to remove as much of the guesswork as possible so that when you arrive at St. Matthias, you can simply be present.

St. Matthias anglican church
Who We Are
St. Matthias is a warm, close-knit congregation in Katy, TX. We are not a large church, and we do not try to be. What we offer instead is something harder to find: a church where people genuinely know one another, care for one another, and grow together in faith.
If you are looking for a place to remain anonymous in a crowd, St. Matthias may not be the right fit. But if you want to be known, welcomed by name, and surrounded by people who are serious about following Christ together, you are in the right place.
Our Worship
We are an Anglican church in the Reformed Episcopal tradition, and our worship reflects that heritage. Each Sunday, we follow the liturgy of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. If that phrase is unfamiliar to you, do not worry. Here is what it means in practice:
The order and structure of our service is the same every week, which means it becomes familiar quickly.
The specific Scripture readings, hymns, and sermon change from week to week.
The entire service is printed in the bulletin each week, so you can follow along without needing to find your place in a prayer book.
Worship involves your whole person: listening, speaking, singing, standing, sitting, kneeling if you are able, and receiving Communion.
Traditional Worship
We sing mostly traditional hymns accompanied by organ and piano. Most of our hymns come from the 1940 Hymnal. We take our singing seriously because what we sing teaches us what we believe.
Weekly Communion
We celebrate Holy Communion nearly every Sunday. Communion is offered to all who are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and who sincerely love and follow Jesus Christ. A typical service runs approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.
Worship with Us On Sundays
We invite you to come join us as we celebrate Holy Communion each Sunday at 10:30am. All are welcome!

What to Wear
There is no dress code at St. Matthias. You will see people dressed in suits and Sunday best alongside others in jeans and casual clothes. The one question worth asking yourself is whether what you wear shows respect for God and for the people around you. Beyond that, come as you are.
Families with Children
We believe worship is for the whole family, including children. We are genuinely glad when kids are in the service with us. Children move, make noise, and have off moments, and we are used to it. You will not embarrass yourself or anyone else.
If you have a little one who needs a moment to settle or if you simply need a breather, we have a nursery and cry room available at the back of the church. Use it freely and without any hesitation.
What If I Want to Join?
Membership at St. Matthias is built around three commitments:
Believe
Commit and Serve
Regular worship attendance, personal growth in faith, financial giving, and using your gifts to serve the congregation and the broader community.
Share
Living openly as a Christian, investing in relationships within the church family, and sharing your faith with those around you.
New members are welcomed through a new members or discipleship class, where you will also be introduced to the Book of Common Prayer in more depth.
Common Questions
I Have Never Been in a Traditional Liturgical Church. Will I be Lost?
Not at all. We print the entire service in the bulletin each week in a clear, easy-to-follow format. You will be able to participate from your very first visit without needing to find your place in a prayer book. As you settle in, you will learn more about the liturgy through our new members class.
